These sites are aimed at consumers. They can create albums and upload pictures for friends to view. Many offer prints, coffee mugs, T-shirts, and other products. This is a highly competitive arena due for a shakeout.
http://smugmug.com - My favorite for both consumer and pro. Fair prices, high quality prints, a wide range of display options and features, and super tech support.
http://www.eframes.com - Not surprisingly, they have a great selection of frames.
http://www.fototime.com - Mac friendly.
http://www.myfamily.com - A site aimed at family tree sharing with photosharing too.
http://www.ofoto.com - Another photofinisher with online album space. Offers framed prints, coffee mugs, posters, mousepads, and even picture cookies.
http://www.shutterfly.com - Spiral bound "snapbooks" on photopaper are a great, inexpensive "portfolio" from digital files you upload. Available in two sizes, 4x6 and 5x7, up to 30 pages. For example, a 5x7, 30 page snapbook with captions costs only $25 plush shipping.
http://www.snapfish.com - San Francisco-based Snapfish is an independent business unit of District Photo, the world's largest mail-order film processor, with operations in the US, UK, and Canada.
http://www.picturetrail.com - Add music to your albums.
http://www.photonet.com - Owned by Kodak, have your film Kodak processed and posted online at the same time. More than 40,000 retailers support this service.
http://www.photoworks.com - Offers film processing, photo CDs, and a print catalog of accessories.
There are a number of websites that allow professional photographers to create a storefront. You can upload digital proofs, price them, and the site processes the order, credit cards, and sends you a check. Some can even print and ship their orders, and some even process film. I have been doing extensive research on these sites and this section will grow extensively when I am done. Contact me if you want to know more.

Adjust Your Monitor. You should see distinct but subtle differences between the boxes above. The left box should be pure black and the right box pure white. If not, adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor. Attention AOL Users. AOL has an optional setting that compresses graphics for faster viewing but it can also make them blurry. To see images properly you should turn this off. Click "My AOL" at the top of the page, click "Preferences", click "www", click "Graphics", then uncheck "Use Compressed Graphics". |
